Raven & Beez: The Distance Between Us

A novel by Kasie West

Publication date: July 2nd, 2013
Publisher: Harper Teen
Pages: 158
Targeted Audience: Teens/Young Adult

Summary: Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn't approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn't been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn't a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved Caymen, her witty sarcasm and dry humor and I loved Xander, his oozing richness and effortless charm and hotness.

First thing first, look at the cover. Look at it. Look. Its so pretty and that did it for me. I just had to read it. How could i resist.?

This book is absolutely fabulous. Caymen has got sarcasm down to an art. She's perfect at it. She's so funny that my stomach was literally aching while I was reading this book. and her cynicism is so amusing and refreshing. I swear if anyone wanted to learn how to speak full on sarcasm, this book is your bible.

Now, I have always wanted to be filthy rich. I hope that in the future I do come in the definition of rich. And Xander is rich, more than rich. Caymen happens to be against the rich. She has grown up with the impression that they are snobs, waste their money on useless thing(exactly what her mom sells) and don't stick around. And she's not wrong, it is further proved when Xander "beckons" her(I was clutching my stomach because I was laughing so hard). I think once I beckoned a teacher(!) before I could stop myself and was so darn embarrassed.

Now Caymen snarky comment amused and made Xander more interested. Even thought that's exactly the opposite of what Caymen wants she can't help succumbing to his charm and the morning hot chocolate. Both of them have no idea which direction they want their life to go. So Mr-i'm-so-rich-take-my-picture suggests career day and begins the string of fun filled days trying to figure out each others potential.

So it begins, morning walks with hot chocolate and Xander, ridiculously fun afternoons including one in a private jet with Xander and one digging a grave, rich and funny banter with Xander. Caymen starts warming up to idea of Xander but then the old misunderstanding leads to some do-i-smell-something-burning jealousy and other feeling. We all know they resolve it and spend quite some time down each others throats.

With the perfect twist in the ending and a shocking discovery and also some more time locking lips, this book is an absolute laugh! Even I(I have an absurd notion that since there are soo many books to read I shall not repeat the ones I already have read) am going to reread it. This book guarantees 101%  silly laughs and rolling eyes. Now, I may have skipped parts about the characters but Raven will gladly fill the spaces.

Read or not to read??
Read, Read, Read!! You have to read this book. Its an amazong book and you will not have a teardrop of regret in you. So just pick it up and read it.

Lots of love and sour punks
Beez.

I don't know what to put up here since Beez has explained every great thing about this book (and those few things that I did not like... Well go down a little and you will see our heated/silly argument)

Caymen and Alexander are two adorable characters. Hats off to the author for making us (Beez and I) fall in love with them. Caymen's sarcastic-ness and Xander's patience towards Caymen is sooo adorable that I am at a loss for words. This book is a great example of 'opposites attract'.

The story sounds cliché but I assure that it is anything but that. It's got a very homey feel to it. Nothing out of the ordinary happens in it. There's Caymen with her problems and Xander with his. They fall for each other and it's definitely not love at first sight..

There are also other characters that you might love. There's Caymen's bestfriend Skye, who is a great friend but you don't really get to connect with her. There is Skye's weird boyfriend Henry (who I keep remembering as Toad, who will know why when you read it) and he is hilarious. Also there is Henry's friend Mason (Also known as Tic) and there is the great Muffin guy who has no role whatsoever in the book but I love him too.

Xander is so prince like that I couldn't stop thinking about him all day after reading the book. I mean come on girls, a guy who has enough patience to let you open up to him on your own time? That's like having a black diamond among pearls (I said that cause black diamonds look pretty to me) and I prefer calling him Alex in my head because that's my favourite name!

And it's not just that characters, it's the whole plot that's awesome. The mystery about Caymen's family, her dad, Xander's family, career days, that feeling of insecurity and not-belonging that everyone has felt at least once in their life, all of this is what makes this book one of a kind and do as Beez suggests (or forces upon you)- Read it!

It's a great book. It's not all drama, there are twists, heartaches and a huge bottle of laughing gas. The perfect book to read when you are travelling. I rate it a 4 since I just love rating stuff.

Lots of love and pasta,
Raven

Beez: My life next door
Huntley Fitzpatrick

"One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time."
The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, messy, affectionate. And every day from her rooftop perch, Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs up next to her and changes everything.
As the two fall fiercely for each other, stumbling through the awkwardness and awesomeness of first love, Jase's family embraces Samantha - even as she keeps him a secret from her own. Then something unthinkable happens, and the bottom drops out of Samantha's world. She's suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?
A transporting debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another.

This is the type of book you can absolutely never not like. Its got its own share of cute(George) and crappy(mom) moments. It's how one summer a girl falls in love with the boy who lives next door but might as well be living in a different world. It's a very sweet story that makes you feel all romantic-y. And the best part is that Sam falls in love in a falling-in-love way. Its not just BAM in your face. It has all those bits of first love- the first kiss, the awkward an silly moments, the small misunderstands after which they make up(and make out), and the heartbreak moment(I got a little teary eyed).

Jase Garrett is the charming and handsome gentleman that Samantha falls in love with. His family(8 kids + 1 more on the way) reminds me of the family in 'Cheaper by the dozen'. There's always something happening. Its filled with hustle bustle and crashes and screaming and wailing(interesting choice of words Patsy). Its the most fun kind of family who's always lively and bursting with energy. Its also the kind of family that everybody looks with the how-do-you-do-it-? look. But Jase is not ashamed at his family at all. Its a part of him.

Unlike Sam's family who consist of an all girl team with Mom and 2 daughters(Sam's the youngest). Samantha's mom is a control freak, hence the load amounts of vacuuming. She also does not like the Garrett's if only because their large children population and their messiness due to the former reason. She pisses me off.

Samantha is quite the character  She has always looked out of her window and seen the Garrett's life. She doesn't admit it but she likes it. Its so different from her own. But that's what she lets it be, the world outside her window. She's a good girl, unlike her older rebel sister, has got a few jobs for the summer and takes SAT classes to accompany her friend. She has sort of a dull life, nothing new or great. Until she meets Jase. Or Jase meets her. From there its all dreamy, their first kiss, falling in love, the process of deflowering(for both). From the girl who watched from the sidelines she was now a part of them. But when something happens(not telling) it rocks her world and she is in the state of dire confusion and despair. When it happens he loses all her hope and became a fictional version of me- lazing everyday and every moment on bed, doing nothing, just moping around. But i shall promise you i has a perfectly happy ending.

This paragraph is devoted to my favorite character George as in cute, 4 year old George brother of Jase.
He is soo adorable and cute and made me laugh like a crazy person. He has so many questions in that mind of his and immediately likes Sam. He calls  her Sailor Supergirl(sorry if i'm ruining this for you).

V cute parts:

“Um. So ... Are we going to study?"
Jase slides his thumbs behind my ears, rubbing the hollow at their base. He's only inches from my face, still looking into my eyes. "You bet. I'm studying you.”

“Is Jase already gonna marry you?”
I start coughing again. “Uh, No. No, George. I’m only seventeen.” As if that’s the only reason we’re not engaged.
“I’m this many.” George holds up four, slightly grubby fingers. “But Jase is seventeen and a half. You could. Then you could live in here with him. And have a big family.”
Jase strides back into the room, of course, midway through this proposition. “George. Beat it. Discovery Channel is on.”
George backs out of the room but not before saying, “His bed’s really comfortable. And he never pees in it.”

Now tell me, do i need to convince you to read it??

Lots of love and jelly beans
Beez.

Beez: The program
Suzanne Young

In Sloane’s world, true feelings are forbidden, teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.
Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.
Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.

Hands down, this book is absolutely fabulous. I loved this book. I could go on and on about it for hours. Its written beautifully. The author has made a very ridiculous idea (suicide epidemic) seem so real. It made me laugh, cry and smile through the tears. It is full of suspense and I could not put down this book(or my mobile since I am reading it on kindle). I was hooked. I repeat, I could not put this book (my mobile) down. I loved every moment. I loved Sloane, James(oh Jaames), Miller, Lacey, Brady, Realm and others.

At first, it's a struggle, to hide true feeling,  keeping love intact, staying together, putting walls up, protecting yourself, not giving up or breaking. There were so many ups and downs. Sloane is fighting, struggling, holding back. Or at least trying to appear well. Everyone around is giving up so it's hard not to just let go. Sloane holding on to thin threads, promises made out of love and desperation.  But it's the final straw, when the most near person to you gives up, you can't do it anymore. And when he comes back, and you're nobody to him; you're lost too. Its breathtaking and painful- losing a love. I was full on sobbing.

It still does not get better. Not when you're the next victim. Then, comes in Realm- he gives that ray of hope, brings her chicken nuggets(equally important), loves her unconditionally.

After that Sloane's discovers herself again, gets hurt again and falls for him (not telling whom) all over again. The ending is amazing. Freedom. In love "madly".

Overall The Program was a satisfying and captivating read. It was heart wrenching, frustrating to the point where I wanted to shred the book to pieces, and had beautifully written romance. I would highly suggest this to patient and strong minded people. If you have anger problems, make sure you don't read this! Also, this book was so depressing it got me depressed. Oops... I guess "The Program" will be coming for me...

This book is amazing. I have texted Raven like a million times telling her that(I'm not sorry for annoying her). Its enrapturing,  capturing, enthralling, fascinating, ravishing and bewitching and spellbinding.

I rate this book 6 out of 5!! This has taken place of my favorite book. To everyone and anyone who's reading this review, go read this book

Lots of love and more love
Beez (Sabah)

Raven & Beez: Warm Bodies
Isaac Marion

Summary: 'R' is a zombie. He has no name, no memories and no pulse, but he has dreams. He is a little different from his fellow dead.
Amongst the ruins of an abandoned city, R meets a girl. Her name is Julie and she is the opposite of everything he knows - warm and bright and very much alive, she is a blast of colour in a dreary grey landscape. For reasons he can't understand, R chooses to save Julie instead of eating her, and a tense yet strangely tender relationship begins.
This has never happened before. It breaks the rules and defies logic, but R is no longer content with life in the grave. He wants to breathe again, he wants to live, and Julie wants to help him. But their grim, rotting world won't be changed without a fight...
I am pretty sure that almost everyone out there has seen the movie adaptation of this book which is great but about the book-Warm Bodies is Isaac Marion's debut novel and I think that it is great.

He has taken up a very original idea and typed it up beautifully. It's got-what I call-dead humor, which is breathtakingly hilarious. However, the exemplary figure of speech for a zombie is kind of weird and almost half the time I had to sit next to a dictionary to find out the meanings of the words he's used.

War between nations has been mentioned in the book and Isaac Marion has an exceptional way of describing the changes war can have on people. I was almost teary-eyed reading it. There are also parts where there are these voices speaking to him and it's really confusing to keep track between R's thoughts and the voices (that are all wise and philosophical).

Also the part where Perry is coming up on his head with weird visions. It's hard to believe that something like that would happen even if you did eat someones brain but then this is fiction! So, eh... who cares?

Now on to romance. Those little sparks between R and Julie is really cute but you don't get to see anything happening. It's just guess work. I mean R does figure out that he is in love with her but whether Julie is also as deeply in love with him is not mentioned. But maybe she is, at least that's what I think (see? Guess work). Plus we don't really get to connect with Nora, M and Perry

It's got a good ending but Julie's fathers reaction to what happens in the ending is not mentioned, so another guess work I suppose.

Anyways, according to me R is really sweet for a Zombie, almost makes me wanna cuddle him to death... if he wasn't already dead.

I am gonna rate it a 4 only because the depth and the most original idea has my head spinning. And I am not done yet, I hear that the prequel was released early this year [The new hunger (Warm Bodies #0.5)] where our connection between Julie, Nora and R is gonna deepen. So I am gonna try to get my hands on it and then a review will be on it's way people!

Lots of love and pasta,
Raven

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. i was laughing most of the time. It was a cute read, life in the head of  a not-quite-like-a-zombie zombie.  This kind of book shows that love  can happen anywhere, anytime and anyhow, even in a zombie world, to a dead zombie and kidnapped living human. It also shows us that we can make anything happen if we want it badly.

Julie. I have no words. i absolutely like her. i like her frankness, i like her candidness, i like the way she demands food from R. Comments on everything. If she's terrified she does not show it. She makes her presence know.  i suppose if a zombie kidnapped me i'd be dead scared. I'd follow him quietly and try not to provoke him into eating or worse. If i was hungry i'd probably say in a squeaky voice, "I'm hungry", unlike Julie who blatantly orders him, "i need food". Another hilarious point is when she calls M a 'fat fuck'. Way to not provoke a zombie! But then she has her own zombie  to protect her so why ever not. I like that when the whole world is infested she has hope that it will be saved and it won't be the end of humanity. And i am definitely stealing her room decor idea for the next time i style me room.

Now lets talk about R.
R is a very unusual zombie. He has so many thing running n his head. He's always thinking. He's very advanced for a zombie. He want to feel alive. When he eats Perry's brain, he feels a connection with Julie. He's curious and very amused by Julie's antics. For a zombie, he has quite a taste in music and moments when he tries to sing them to Julie are just hilarious. Oh and tat part to when he gets married(i'm not telling who).

I loved both the movie and the book. And i totally agree with Raven's point above. The ending is kind of incomplete. I want to know what happens to R and Julie. And Nora and M. Which is why i will read the prequel. So till then, kudos.

If you're wondering whether to read it or not refer to Raven's consultation.

Lots of love and pizza

Raven: Sons of Fortune

A novel by Jeffrey Archer

Publication date: January 8, 2003
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Pages: 516
Target Audience: General

Summary: In the late 1940s in Hartford, Connecticut a set of twins are parted at birth. Nat Cartwright goes home with his parents, a schoolteacher and an insurance salesman. But his twin is to begin his days as Fletcher Andrew Davenport, the only son of a multi-millionaire and his society wife.

During the years that follow, the two brothers grow up unaware of each other's existence. Nat leaves college at the University of Connecticut to serve in Vietnam. He returns a war hero, finishes school and becomes a successful banker. Fletcher, meanwhile, has graduated from Yale University and distinguishes himself as a criminal defense lawyer before he is elected a senator.

Even when Nat and Fletcher fall in love with the same girl they still don't meet. They continue on their separate paths until one has to defend the other for a murder he did not commit. But the final confrontation comes when Nat and Fletcher are selected to stand against each other for governor of the state.

This book like all other Jeffrey Archer books is great. The start of the book reminded me of his book The Fourth Estate (A book review that I have already done) but as you go on reading you will realise that it's nothing like that book at all.

The story is set in the time between the 1940's and the end of the twentieth century. They have a common rival Elliot, who in my opinion is a total jerk (which is obviously what the author wanted us to feel). There is intense rivalry at different parts with different people which makes the book all the more interesting.

Fletcher and Nat's devoted love towards their wife and child is adorable, which leads to the small intense action between one of the main characters and the rival (I am not telling who) which is awesome and as I was reading the action part I was rooting for the protagonist to punch the heck out of the other person.

The court proceedings for a murder (mentioned in summary) is very interesting, no doubt due to the authors history in Her Majesty's prison.

The reason why the twins were not instantly pointed out when they both stand for election is revealed just before the ending. The revealing of the birth secret of the twins is so nerve-wreckingly cool that I almost peed my pants reading it.

If truth be told, I stopped reading the book from the second last chapter because I was scared that it was going to be finally over which was obviously something that I would not be able to handle. But curiosity took the better of me and I was back to reading the book after a couple of hours of grieving.

The ending is fantastic. Jeffrey Archer has a way of putting everything into place in the most awesomest ways. I am warning you though, read the ending carefully twice or thrice to get it right. At first you might think something else but if you read it again carefully you will attain the right answer.

I rate it 4.5 for its beautiful way of portraying things and also because I am a full on hater of racists and it seems like the author is too. Woohoo!

Lots of love and pasta,
Raven

Raven: The Fourth Estate

A novel by Jeffrey Archer

Publication date: July 1st, 1997
Publisher: HarperPaperbacks
Pages: 742
Target Audience: Anyone and everyone

Summary: Lubji Hoch survived World War II on luck, guts, and ruthlessness. At the war's end, renamed Richard Armstrong, he buys a floundering newspaper in Berlin and deviously puts his competitors out of business. But it isn't enough. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Keith Townsend, the Oxford-educated son of a millionaire newspaper owner, takes over his family's business. His energy and brilliant strategic thinking quickly make him the leading newspaper publisher in Australia. Still, he longs to move on to the world stage.

As both Armstrong and Townsend seize control of everything they see, their ambitions collide on a global scale. But suddenly they both find themselves threatened by financial disaster and enormous debt. Frantic to save his crumbling empire, each man turns desperate. One's quest will lead to triumph, the other's will end in tragedy in this awesome tale of wealth and corruption, desire and destruction.

This is another one of Jeffrey Archers great books but if you have read A Prisoner of Birth before then I don't think this will interest you. It is not as fast paced as his other books that I have read. The thing that reeled me into this book was the rivalry among newspaper companies. I had never given a second thought to the way the newspaper industry works but if it's anything like this book then it must be one hell of a roller coaster. It's got humor in the most unexpected situations which makes the reading fun.

I liked the female characters that accompany the protagonists. They are smart, cunning and beautiful. This is also another reason why I love reading Jeffrey Archer books, he never degrades women by insulting them or making fun of them. He portrays them as someone who are smarter than men. Love you Mister Archer!

I rate this a 3.5 because compared to his other works, I know he can do better.

Lots of love and pasta,
Raven

Beez: Faking it
Cora Carmack

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.
Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

Let me be honest. I did not finish this book. It is totally cliche. Guy is hung up on best friend who's getting married to someone else. Meets girl- wild, failing music courier, beautiful, different and has boyfriend. But poor girl needs pretty boy to ____ parents for money. Of course, pretty boy agrees. Angry girls parents love him.  Even though they are pretending, pretty boy is utterly smitten and angry girl doesn't admit it but shots of electricity fly when he touched her. They share few secrets, connect, he watches her bare her soul and some magic happens. Then they do the "deed". Pretty boy is willing to do anything. But angry girl shoves him in a wall. Alas! she still needs him. -i stopped reading her, but i can tell you exactly what happens next- Lots of stammering apologies, admitting it was a mistakes, pretty boy's hurting all over again. Thick chemistry in the air. Angry girl just wants to forget but she needs him, her reasons now different then before. Situations change, they are forced into everything together. Neither of them can handle it but to each other they look like they are way past it. "Accidentally" some heated kisses happen. Now, last thing in this stew, rest will happen on its on. Distance. Angry girl finally admits she's over in love and pretty boy returns made up mind that he will pretend she does not exist to find- angry girl waiting for him on his doorstep....

Total cliche.

Not that i didn't like it. 2 years ago i would have died over this book. I still am a sucker for them. But why i didn't like this book - Cade aka pretty boy. He's a nice guy, selfless, kind, very cute and in all your average good guy. What i din't like is how in the start of the book he was so pathetically in love with his best friend. Looking at her with puppy dog eyes, so not over her. Guys are strictly not sappy creatures. Then when he meets Max, he agrees to act like her boyfriend to her parents for- a date! That's it. Max's boyfriend literally fled when he heard her folks were coming down. But he simply agrees, only for a date. Fast forward to after the acting- Cade has been persuaded to come to a bar by flirty one-night-stand-kinda-guy Milo (tell me which guy in his right mind has to be persuaded to come to a bar with tons of girls- guys live for that such of a thing). Then a pretty blond attaches her to him and he feels nothing- no remote interest although he notices Max from across the room! There is a sexy blond on his arm clearly into him and he does not notice her! Lets be bland, guys are all about sex, they can't really say no to it(can't say no by Conor Maynard).  So as much as i like Cade i can't help but find his character ridiculous.

Now the good part- I like Max. She is full of this bursting anger and energy, so combustible. She wild and not afraid. And even though she is constantly in denial as far as Cade is concerned its human, i can imagine anybody being afraid of falling in love, putting herself out there and taking a risk of getting hurt. She's full of a vibrant energy and gives out that mysterious, shimmering, disappearing girl vibe. I'd like to think that in the future i have her personality, i mean who can refuse a "who's that girl?" kind of girl, even Cade can't.Another thing i like is how this book is written- its's visual and very real. It makes the whole cliche'd fantasy seem so real and fairy tale-y.

So my verdict. I'd say if you're into dreamy stuff and are a sucker for good guys falling for bad girl stories and want to cuddle up with some warm and other feelings- go for it. However if you're prefer more realistic stuff and get very exasperated at exaggerations and shots of electricity stay away- unless of course you're in a very bad mood and want to get out some wicked "really?" laughs. And lastly, if you're a girl in desperate need of unrequited love from an inanimate object, don't hesitate.;)

Lots of love and sex
Beez.

Raven: A Prisoner of birth

A novel by Jeffrey Archer

Publication date: March 4th, 2008
Publisher: St. Martin's press
Pages: 501
Target Audience: Anybody who can keep up with the pace of the story.

Summary: If Danny Cartwright had proposed to Beth Wilson the day before, or the day after, he would not have been arrested and charged with the murder of his best friend. But when the four prosecution witnesses are a barrister, a popular actor, an aristocrat, and the youngest partner in an established firm's history, who is going to believe his side of the story?
Danny is sentenced to twenty-two years and sent to Belmarsh prison, the highest-security jail in the land, from where no inmate has ever escaped.
However, Spencer Craig, Lawrence Davenport, Gerald Payne, and Toby Mortimer all underestimate Danny's determination to seek revenge, and Beth's relentless quest to pursue justice, which ends up with all four fighting for their lives.
It is a great book with absolutely no place for errors. A plot that makes you go 'ooh!' and 'aah!' A must read book for those who prefer crime-mystery novels and for the people out there who think it's boring to read about the court proceedings, trust me this book will make you want to learn the law.

Alex Redmayne was my favourite side character because he is a lawyer and I have always had a liking for lawyers who are smart, handsome and prefer to do anything to help prevail justice over wrong. I rate it a 4.7 for the most mind boggling ending ever.

Lots of love and pasta,
Raven

Luke is the perfect boyfriend: handsome, kind, fun. He and Emaline have been together all through high school in Colby, the beach town where they both grew up. But now, in the summer before college, Emaline wonders if perfect is good enough.
Enter Theo, a super-ambitious outsider, a New Yorker assisting on a documentary film about a reclusive local artist. Theo's sophisticated, exciting, and, best of all, he thinks Emaline is much too smart for Colby.
Emaline's mostly-absentee father, too, thinks Emaline should have a bigger life, and he's convinced that an Ivy League education is the only route to realizing her potential. Emaline is attracted to the bright future that Theo and her father promise. But she also clings to the deep roots of her loving mother, stepfather, and sisters. Can she ignore the pull of the happily familiar world of Colby?
Emaline wants the moon and more, but how can she balance where she comes from with where she's going?
Sarah Dessen's devoted fans will welcome this story of romance, yearning, and, finally, empowerment. It could only happen in the summer.

I love Sarah Dessen books. And this was no exception.
This book takes place in Colby, previously visited in 'Along for the ride' with Auden. Colby is where the tourists keep coming, stay for the summer and just like that, are gone. But to Emaline, Colby is home. Or at least till summer ends. All around her, she has seen people leave as quickly as they come, now it's her turn. She's leaving for school in the fall. But before that she meets over ambitious Theo, bonds with her kid brother, works as assistant to a bad tempered boss and wins Best Dressed Couple with her best friend one last time. With what starts out as the same as usual summer with the gorgeous also shirtless pool guy, Luke as her boyfriend ends leaving Emaline a bunch of new memories, a summer fling and a tad of wisdom.

This book was an absolutely fun read. I enjoyed the moments with Benji who is one of my favorite characters because he is simply larger than life and carries his excitement  My face almost lit up when Benji was there. Morris is my other favorite character he's has that uncanny ability to see the bigger picture plus his laziness and slow motion life made me laugh. The character I absolutely detest is Emmaline's dad. Hes one of those stereo type control phobic dads piss me off.

This book it a perfect beach side read, and what makes it different it that its about growing up, leaving home and finding yourself. There's romance in it but its not a love story. Its a very realistic book where you eventually face your demons, wonder about the choices you've made, handle expectations of others on you and do more wondering about how the outside world is while staring from a window in the attic.

If you're wondering whether to read it or not, i'd say go for it.

Lots of love and chocolate
Beez.
